Valley of the Wolves - Iraq
Valley of the Wolves - Iraq (Kurtlar vadisi - Irak) is a big budget Turkish action film that takes as its starting point an actual incident between American and Turkish forces.
A record breaker on Turkish TV for three seasons and now a phenomenon, “Valley of the Wolves” is now preparing to shake the world with the movie…
The story begins with a true story: “The Hood Event”… On 2003, the 4th of July, allied American forces come to the unofficial, half-secret Turkish headquarters consisting of eleven people. The Turkish soldiers suppose that this an ordinary visit from their allies. But this time it is different. In the changing conjuncture, America wants to be the only power “calling the shots”. To them, there is no place for Turks in the region any more…
That day, eleven soldiers are deported with hoods on their heads with no respect to their soldiership dignity and in front of the region’s people…
It’s all truth up to this point in the movie…
In the story based on facts, Suleyman Aslan is one of those eleven soldiers. As first lieutenant, Suleyman, can’t reconcile being insulted and surrendering with his honor. Therefore, he commits suicide and leaves a letter behind.
The letter is addressed to Polat Alemdar… Polat Alemdar is a very specially trained Turkish intelligence agent. He has attended several missions in the country and abroad for a secret agency working for the state… Because of his last mission, he has no contact with the secret agency… Living by his missions, Polat Alemdar can’t ignore the will of his friend who committed suicide for the sake of his duty.
He is in Northern Iraq with his men now. To die for, if needed…
They found a different situation than they expected in Northern Iraq. They were after the man who insulted the Turkish soldiers but they couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the situation there. The people of Iraq’s values, personalities and history were completely being disregarded. The desired new order was forcing an unacceptable change on the people… The one who is responsible for these unendurable crimes against humanity is a special forces commander called Sam William Marshall and who was also responsible for the hood event.
In order to carry out his plan, Sam W. Marshall raids the Arabian wedding where everyone from the region comes together. He kills tens of people. All are civilians. Leila, the bride of the wedding, loses her future groom in the killings. Apart from the people who were murdered there, also a lot of people are declared terrorists and arrested.
Destiny shall intersect the paths of Polat and Leyla later fort he sake of the objective that both had ventured to die for…
Sam William Marshall is now being chased by all of his sins, Polat and Leyla…
You will not forget the movie “Valley of the Wolves – Iraq” adorned with incredible action scenes and heartbreaking stories of humanity…

Where in the U.S. can this film be seen? When will it be released on DVD (formated for zone 1)?
According to the IMDb, the film has already been released in the US. I suspect that this has been quite a limited release, so your best bet is to check out the art-house cinemas in whatever city is closest to you.
I’ve not seen any news about a DVD release yet, but keep an eye on Amazon because I’m sure it’ll turn up sooner or later.
I am dying to see the movie in the US its not released yet for a well known reasons If anyone has info when the dvd comes out please post it Thanks
here in australia it was only in 2 hoyts cinemas in sydney, 2 cinemas in melbourne only, i dont think we will see much of this movie as it is not a hollywood release but im sure eventually when it comes on dvd in turkiye (turkey) everyone will have a copy of it.
This a very very good movie i think its as Stephan Frumm says…..
A great movie about a group of Turkish Davids vs. the Army of the “Power Nation”-Goliath in Iraq.
I don’t hold that movie for manure. It’s showing the real face of war in the Near East. Most of the shown are happening
day by day all around the world. We are watching only sterilized pictures on TV. The reason why this film makes some
people nervous is, that its forcing to watch in the mirror. People with lower grades of criticism ability are not well
advised by this movie.
The question is: Are the people in Near East or elsewhere asked whether they would like or want that kind of peace shown
by the movie? One should clean the own stable, before tying to clean other stables! To understand this “Turkish Movie-Highlight”
and to create an opinion about the topic in general, one have to inform about their prophet Mohammed,
his achievements and the Islamic Culture.
The mirror at the Wall says not always things we want to hear.
Therefore 10 Points for an awake-shaking movie from Germany.
Best regards, Stephan Frumm
Hello… Does anyone know whether Valley of the Wolves is already released in English (preferably on DVD), and if so, where could one get a copy ?
Greetings,
Steve
The movie has been released on DVD already and is available online at… http://www.tulumba.com/storeItem.asp?ic=VI342836DE392
Also note, that the movie is filmed in 4 seperte languages (English, Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish), all interlocking in different scenes. There are subtitles throughout the film, but I don’t think there is a complete English dubbed version. The English trailers are simply scenes that were filmed in English, but not every seen is English. I hope that was clear.
I just read an article on msn from a NY Times writer saying “I thought Turkey was a secular ally–how could they make a movie like this”? This is not a shift only in the attitude of Turks, the old saying goes “you reap what you sow”. The U.S with its unilateral aggression against the nations of thw world needs a wake up call, and movies like this are a start. Writers like the abopve mentioned should exit their bubble and the insulation of the major news networks and see the human cost of war and what “collateral damage” actually consists of—the result is something just as abhorrent as terrorism of any level. Bush and the neocons are not curbing terrorism at any level but simply fostering and nurturing it and making anti-U.S rhetoric something that the world is touting not only Turkey. The U.S used to export hope and a sense of freedom, now it exports only fear and anger. Compare any U.S embassy to a Chinese one, the former looking like alcatraz, the latter a welcoming place.
I am an American girl and my husband is from Jordan. I saw the movie Valley of the Wolves with my husband and I felt sadness.
Americans can be just as barbaric as other terrorists.
It is everyone’s duty to watch this film
From the trailer I just saw this looks like total crap. Y’all sound like a bunch of terrorist. I didn’t know it already came out, but I thought Billy Zane stopped acting. Wasn’t his last movie Zoolander? It’s everyone’s duty to burn and piss on the ashes of this movie. God Bless the USA!
Hey Luke. Burning films and praising god? You sound just like a member of the Taliban.
fantasstik
Hi, i herd about this film from a turkish frined on the net, i would love to see this film. If anyone can tell me where to buy/download it can u please let me know.
Luke, you are a prat
I served with the 173rd in Iraq, this movie is as much a BS propaganda effort of lies as the media is, if you want reality you wont find it on TV or on a DVD, go see it for yourself
Luke,
You are a ignorant redneck moron. Out of the 100’s of hollywood films that depicts arabs/muslims as terrorists, this one is closer t the truth of the matter
Gav,
I agree, the movie does not do justice to the condition of iraq. It is probably much much WORSE!
you ALL AMERICANS YOUR BEING MANIPULATED BY YOUR GOVERNEMENT THE FILM IS 100% PERCENT TRUE I’VE RED THAT IN AMERICA MANY OF THE SCENES IN THE MOVIE ARE CUT CENSORED WHY?ITS ALL ABOUT THE OIL
I just watched the movie an loved it. I think Americans need to free up their minds, policies and government. It’s sad to see how ignorant and arrogant American policies have become and the American people that don’t know crap about the world around them, end up defending their interests and badmouthing actors as traitors because of the lack of cultural values. They confuse Christian Values as being one that can actually invade sovereign nations, invade their oil, call it a freedom action and if people oppose they call them all enemies.
I believe the Roman Empire ended with a similar scenario of an Empire that became too big for its head and lost its sense of reality in policies and relations with other nations.
As for the US policy on Turkey, I think the US is making a horrific error, much like their previous support for Taliban. The US openly supports groups that promoted terror attacks on Turkey for over a decade. Most Americans don’t know this. Nor do they know that the US is threatening Turkey to open up several US bases and if Turkey doesn’t give, it faces destabilization or freeze of IMF Loans.
I think most Americans should be happy that the Turks are only making movies showing their frustations. If it turns to actions, it can get deadly and destructive for the US.
