Played

Played DVD Life can be tough in London’s Soho district, especially if you’re a small time thief at the mercy of a crooked cop (Detective Brice, played by Vinnie Jones).

Played is the story of Ray Burns (Mick Rossi), the small time thief hired by Brice’s number one henchman (Riley, played by Patrick Bergin), to carry out a daring robbery. Something goes wrong on the job and two young men end up dead. Nothing would have been heard about this, except that one of the dead men is the favorite son of one of London’s biggest mob boss (Jack Rawlings, played by Roy Dotrice). Brice is soon under pressure from an internal investigation for the crime, and Riley tells him that a fall guy must be found. Ray Burns fits in perfectly and a warrant is issued for his arrest.

Ray is arrested and after spending eight silent years in jail, he’s now back on the streets, wanting revenge. Ray is recruited by Rawlings to kill Riley as revenge for his son’s death. Rawlings oufits Ray with everything he needs, including Riley’s whereabouts (Los Angeles) and one of his ‘acquaintances’ in Los Angeles (Eddie, played by Gabriel Byrne), who gets Ray the tools he needs to finish Riley off.

Ray goes to Los Angeles, where he locates Riley and shoots him. He is then brought in for questioning by Detectives Drummon and Allen (Anthony LaPaglia and Bruno Kirby) about Riley’s murder. Riley’s girl (Samantha, played by Sile Bermingham), is also brought in for questioning, but she has her own agenda -revenge- and Ray is on top of the list for killing Riley…Samantha catches up with Ray and shoots him, but ray survives and calls Eddie for help. Eddie’s “Clean Up” guy (Dillon, played by Val Kilmer) comes to help Ray, getting him safely back to England…but Brice now knows Ray killed Riley, and he puts out a hit on him. Ray is now being played for the finale, which is explosive and unexpected as more uninvited guests turn up for the showdown.
