Pan Nalin’s upcoming Valley of Flowers looks like it could be very good indeed.
Valley of Flowers is a Himalayan legend of a love struggling against the inevitability of death, an astonishing tale spanning from the early 19th century mountain existence, to hectic, bustling modern day Tokyo.
Once upon a time in the east…
Along the highest mountain passes of the Himalayas, tough, intrepid Jalan and his gang earn their living by stealing from unsuspecting travelers. Abiding by their own, unique codes of honour and dividing the spoils equally, all is routine until the arrival of the mystifying, beautiful Ushna. Appearing mysteriously after the raid of a pilgrim caravan, Ushna adheres to Jalan, claiming to have seen him in her dreams, and refusing to leave his side. Sensing the unsettlement of the rest of the men, Ushna offers to help them in their endeavours, under condition that they not ask why or how she is able to guide them to success.
In the time that follows, Ushna leads the gang to tremendous exploits, gaining the respect of the men, and the admiration of Jalan, who begins to fall passionately in love with this mysterious woman. As their success increases, seemingly unstoppable, so the love between Jalan and Ushna mounts in intensity, until they seem to have entered a world of their own. No longer heeding of the world around them, Jalan and Ushna venture too far in their exploits, progressing from the theft of material objects to tampering with elements that should never be tampered with; stealing energy, luck and even the powers of levitation, the two cross over into the bounds of the supernatural, until fate puts an abrupt end to their rapturous adventure.
Word of the duo and their strange exploits reaches the shrewd, robust general Yeti, who takes after them with his gang of experienced bounty hunters. In the confusion of pursuit, Jalan and Ushna face a temporary separation, the shock of which drives each to desperation. Having lost luck, wealth and friends, the fated two are nevertheless fortuitously reunited. Their passion running higher than ever, they vow never to be separated again, even if this entails deceiving fate and cheating mortality. But life always reserves surprises….

I’m not quite sure where to begin with Randy Greif’s The Three Trials…
Catherine, a nun with a unique form of narcolepsy, attempts to lose herself in the worlds of religion, adolescent fantasy, and finally masochistic devotion to a man. Her husband accommodates her masochism with increasingly extreme and bizarre rituals. With an experimental and ground-breaking format, The Three Trials incorporates surreal narrative, music video, and abstract imagery. The viewer is left to interpret what is real, what is dream, and what is false narrative in this feverish, pitch-black comedy with a smorgasbord of sexual fetishes.
… but do give the trailers a go as they look stunning.

Who’d have thought that Spike Lee would have gotten involved in a mainstream crime caper?
At least that’s the impression that comes across from the trailer for The Inside Man, which stars Denzil Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster.
The Inside Man takes places during a hostage situation in which a tough cop matches wits a clever bank robber, who sets to pull the the perfect heist. Washington stars as New York police detective Keith Miller, a tough, street-smart cop fighting for a promotion while trying to live down accusations of misconduct connected to his last case. When he and his partner are dispatched to the scene of an in-progress bank robbery and hostage crisis, Miller must face off against a well-educated criminal (Owen) masterminding a concisely plotted operation. As negotiations grow more strained, a powerful lawyer with mysterious ties (Foster) becomes involved in the crisis… and Miller slowly begins to realize that in this ultimate game of cat and mouse, rules are arbitrary, all roles are up for grabs and the black-and-white of right an wrong has blurred to a shadowy landscape of gray. Willem Dafoe will be playing the role of a police captain while Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a detective in the film.

This looks good - a film by Jim Jarmusch and starring Bill Murray as a devoutly single man who receives a letter informing him that he’s a father…
Or, according to Focus Features who are producing the film…
In the new film from acclaimed writer/director Jim Jarmusch, which won the Grand Prix at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival, Bill Murray stars as Don Johnston. The resolutely single Don has just been dumped by his latest lover, Sherry (Julie Delpy). Don yet again resigns himself to being alone and left to his own devices. Instead, he is compelled to reflect on his past when he receives by mail a mysterious pink letter. It is from an anonymous former lover and informs him that he has a 19-year-old son who may now be looking for his father. Don is urged to investigate this “mystery” by his closest friend and neighbor, Winston (Jeffrey Wright), an amateur sleuth and family man. Hesitant to travel at all, Don nonetheless embarks on a cross-country trek in search of clues from four former flames (Frances Conroy, Jessica Lange, Sharon Stone, and Tilda Swinton). Unannounced visits to each of these unique women hold new surprises for Don as he haphazardly confronts both his past and, consequently, his present.
I’ve not been able to locate an official website as yet, but there is a Quicktime trailer online here

Feisto - a video by Frank Moore
On the surface, it is your standard story of a clothes designer who finds a creature (guess who!) definitely not from HERE who totally turns her life upside down. But what it really explores is the warm playing erotic small sexual messy fun turned-on reality between two people … an ice cream cone melting throughout life!
The trailer for this film reminded me, more than anything, of Lars von Trier’s The Idiots and it certainly looks interesting.
You can watch the trailer here and the full here - something I plan to do in the very near future.

When her father, a biblical scholar, mysteriously disappears, a Christian high-school student named Danielle investigates. She discovers that he had stumbled across a cover-up of Christianity’s best-kept secret: That Jesus never existed.
Now that she possesses proof of this dangerous fact, Danielle must conront two strong forces: A band of fundamentalist Christians who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth, and her own desire for Jesus Christ to be real.
Diving into factual territory well-explored by scholars but largely hidden from the view of the public, The Beast is an epic story of innocence lost, faith in crisis, and the astonishing power of the truth to survive.
Granted, the idea that Jesus never existed is hardly well hidden, but it would be interesting to take a look at the way people continue to irrationally believe in things on the basis that they’d like them to be true rather than on the basis of available evidence.
Appropriately enough, The Beast is scheduled to be released on 6th June, 2006. In the meantime you can check out the teaser trailer here.
