Cannibal Flesh Riot!
Cannibal Flesh Riot! is the directorial début for author/illustrator Gris Grimly. The idea started as limited edition horror comic - that was never released - and then became a short film, written and directed by Gris with music composed by Peter Sandorff, the former guitarist of Nekromantix.
Stash and Hub, two redneck ghouls, take a journey through an ancient graveyard to do what ghouls have done for centuries: grave defiling, necrophilia and cannibalism. On their midnight walk, they rant about their idiosyncrasies. But this morbid journey to feast on the dead does not unfold as it has the numerous nights before. Stash and Hub have raided the resting place of the deceased one too many times and the dead do not take lightly to being fed on for centuries.
Cannibal Flesh Riot! is a character driven short film with no prepositions of time or space. It verges on comedy with its cynical dark wit and dabbles in horror with its exhumed graves and Lovecraftian monsters. It reeks of social commentary with its dialogue of social rejection, family recipes and traumatic cartoons from childhood. It is a cinematic representation of rock and roll, EC horror comedies, drunken philosophy and a barnyard ho down flavoured with 50’s B Films, German Expressionism and stop motion effects using real meat.
