Splinter

Splinter poster On the mean streets of East LA, two gangsters - Dreamer and Dusty - unite over the mysterious murder of their brother. Dreamer, with the bullet that killed his brother still lodged in his skull, is desperately seeking revenge when he crosses paths with Detective Gramm, a confident rookie cop partnered with corrupt veteran Cunningham. Amidst a rising body count and the threat of an all-out gang war, the four characters lock themselves in a brutal end-game as they discover who among them is creating the brutal chaos.

Splinter is an urban film noir set in East LA where the gangs rule the streets and the cops are as dirty as the river running through it.

Grace Is Gone

Poster for Grace is Gone There was a time when Stanley Phillips (John Cusack) could see his entire life clearly. He dreamed of patriotic service and was destined for a military career. He came close to that dream until it was cut short simply because of his poor eyesight. Now he’s serving customers at a home supply store while his Sergeant wife is fighting in Iraq.

Equally as awkward at home as he is at work, he’s raising Heidi, their twelve-year-old daughter and her 8-year-old sister Dawn. Although a loving father, Stanley is unable to conform to a more affectionate role and the girls miss their mother deeply.

While tolerating his job and stumbling through parenting he is abruptly awakened when tragedy strikes. Ill prepared to deal with it himself, he is at a complete loss contemplating how to tell his children. Desperate to delay telling the children they embark on a spontaneous road trip. Grasping to give them their last moments of innocence, Stanley reveals a softer side as they travel to Dawn’s chosen destination – Enchanted Gardens Theme Park.

The farther they drive the closer they become yet Stanley knows he must face the inevitable task of changing their lives forever.

Grace Is Gone was written by James Strouse and is his directorial début.

Popular author Dries (Dries Vanhegen) is approached out of the blue by three disabled misfits seeking a drummer for their band. They are attempting to grab punk-rock notoriety via a one-off performance at a local rock fest. Singer Koen (Norman Baert) is a woman-hating skinhead rapist who literally lives his life upside down; bass player Jan (stand-up comedian Gunter Lamoot) has a paralyzed arm due to an absurd masturbation accident; and deaf guitarist Ivan (Sam Louwyck) lives in squalor with his druggie wife and baby daughter. Dries descends from his wealthy bourgeois Olympus of fame and ménages à trois with his beautiful wife and her friends to slum with the band, seeking inspiration for a possible book. His disability? He can’t play drums.

Ex Drummer was released in Belgium at the start of this year and is now available on DVD (with English subtitles) from A-Film.
