Winner of the International Critics’ Prize at the Toronto Film Festival, Death Of A President is conceived as a fictional TV documentary broadcast in 2008, reflecting on the assassination of President George W. Bush on October 19th, 2007. The “documentary” combines archival footage and carefully composed interviews, presented in a respectful and dignified manner. Exciting and questioning, it refashions the event into a riveting story.

In late September 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was bound on a trip to New York City. Mysteriously, he was discovered several days later, raving and incoherent, in a Baltimore gutter. For three days he lay delirious in a hospital (renowned for bodysnatching) and there he died. To this day, the cause of his death remains a mystery. Mixing authentic recreations of Poe’s life and last days with terrifying imagery from his stories, The Death of Poe is a cinematic chronicle of the great writer’s final journey into madness and fear.

“Same Lord. New Messiah”
NyMpha is the story of Sarah, a young English girl, who goes to Italy to take vows needed to become a cloister nun of the “New Order” Convent. The rules of the convent are very strict, so strict that they are often considered a form of torture. Sarah’s path is divided into four steps, “hear” the Lord, “see” the Lord, “touch” the Lord and “talk” with the Lord…
Each step will be painful for both Sarah’s physical and mental self. Moreover, during Sarah’s journey, she often has visions of the Convents past, visions that it was the house of a young girl named Ninfa…
Ninfa’s life was ruined by the religious fanaticism of her violent grandfather Geremia, who believes that he can talk directly with God. In reality, he is utterly mad, and this madness seems to be present today (within the walls of the convent) where young Sarah lives…

Only the French could come up with a comedy about gay poltergeists from the 1970s.
Poltergay opens in France on 25th October and the trailer was a lot funnier than it should have been.

The Wizard of Gore is a remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ 1970 film in which a stage magician hypnotizes women, and then sticks them with drills, hatchets, and everything but the kitchen sink. They awaken without a scratch on them, only to wind up dead days later.
In this version, Crispin Glover plays the magician and (as far as I can tell) the Suicide Girls are playing the victims. But I’m still not convinced that this remake - like most others - is not a very bad idea indeed.

Koldo Serra’s The Backwoods (Bosque de Sombras) is set in summer 1978. An English couple Lucy (Virginie Ledoyen) and Norman (Paddy Considine) are going through a difficult patch in their relationship, and so decide to spend the summer in the house that their friends Paul (Gary Oldman) and his wife Isabel (Aitana Sanchez-Gijón) have bought in the north of Spain. Hidden away in the middle of a forest, and very much off the beaten track, the house seems ideal for some peaceful holidays.
The cultural differences with the locals lead by Paco (Lluis Homar) and an accidental discovery in an abandoned house in the middle of the forest will start a strong whirpool of violence between them.
