Saw II

Saw II The synopsis for Saw II looks like this:

While investigating the bloody aftermath of a grizzly murder, Detective Eric Mason (Donnie Wahlberg) has the feeling that it is the work of Jigsaw, the notorious killer who disappeared leaving a trail of bodies - and parts - behind. And Mason is right. Jigsaw is at work again. But instead of two people locked in a room with only one unthinkable way out, there are eight. Eight strangers – unaware of their connection to each other — forced to play out a game that challenges their wits and puts their lives in jeopardy.

A History of Violence

Still from A History of Violence I’ve heard a lot of good things about David Cronenberg’s latest film, A History of Violence, which is based on a graphic novel of the same name by John Wagner and Vince Locke.

Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) is living a happy and quiet life with his lawyer wife Edie (Maria Bello) and their two children in the small town of Millbrook, Indiana, but one night their idyllic existence is shattered when Tom foils a vicious attempted robbery in his diner. Sensing danger, he takes action and saves his customers and friends in the self-defence killing of two sought-after criminals.

Heralded as a hero, Tom’s life is changed overnight, atracting a national media circus, which forces him into the spotlight. Uncomfortable with his newfound celebrity, Tom tries to return to the normalcy of his ordinary life only to be confronted by a mysterious and threatening man (Ed Harris) who arrives in town believing Tom is the man who wronged him in the past. As Tom and his family fight back against the case of mistaken identity and struggle to cope with their changed reality, they are forced to confront their relationships and the divisive issues that surface as a result.

Revolver

Pocket and Blue How far would you go to keep your word?

Scattered postcards from all over the country, a ‘62 pick-up, and a dusty revolver from a pawn shop counter.

When Pocket is forced to travel from his hometown in Montana to New York City, he returns with more than just his estranged father’s belongings. Leaving the city, Pocket picks up a street smart beauty named Blue.

Blue’s sparkle puts a twist in Pocket’s quiet life. Hitting every landmark ever preserved on a postcard, she drags Pocket from closed shows to strip clubs, from ballrooms to bar fights. Blue’s radiance is matched by her fury, but the adventuring somehow suits Pocket.

When her next ride never arrives, Pocket promises to get her safely to Vegas. It becomes more than he bargained for when Blue’s past turns up and puts them on the run. Some promises are easy to give and hard to keep.

Stranded, with no money, no food, no friends, and no place to stay, Blue’s got nothing left but a soft spoken cowboy and his promise. To fight back against the giant that’s made them outlaws, she’ll need them both.

Revolver isn’t a film… yet. It’s a trailer, made by a group of filmmakers with a screenplay that want to make it all happen. The response to the trailer, not surprisingly, has been overwhelmingly positive, so the film stands a very good chance of getting made… but no-one can say when just yet.

The Wallace & Gromit Movie: Curse of the Wererabbit

The Wallace & Gromit Movie: Curse of the WererabbitI was thrilled when I heard that a Wallace and Gromit movie was finally in the pipeline and even more thrilled when I found that the website for the film had gone up.

he cheese-loving Wallace and his ever faithful dog Gromit - the much-loved duo from Aardman’s Oscar-winning clay-animated “Wallace & Gromit” shorts - star in an all new comedy adventure, marking their first full-length feature film.

It’s ‘vege-mania’ in Wallace and Gromit’s neighborhood, and our two enterprising chums are cashing in with their humane pest-control outfit, “Anti-Pesto.” With only days to go before the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, business is booming, but Wallace & Gromit are finding out that running a “humane” pest control outfit has its drawbacks as their West Wallaby Street home fills to the brim with captive rabbits.

Suddenly, a huge, mysterious, veg-ravaging “beast” begins attacking the town’s sacred vegetable plots at night, and the competition hostess, Lady Tottington, commissions Anti-Pesto to catch it and save the day. Lying in wait, however, is Lady Tottington’s snobby suitor, Victor Quartermaine, who’d rather shoot the beast and secure the position of local hero - not to mention Lady Tottingon’s hand in marriage. With the fate of the competition in the balance, Lady Tottington is eventually forced to allow Victor to hunt down the vegetable chomping marauder. Little does she know that Victor’s real intent could have dire consequences for her…and our two heroes.

This is going to be a cracking film!

Marebito

Marebito Takashi Shimizu, the director behind the frighteningly good Ju-On, is back. This time with Marebito, in which a fear-obsessed freelance cameraman (played by Shinya Tsukamoto) investigates an urban legend involving mysterious spirits that haunt the subways of Tokyo.

There is a French Trailer, and a Taiwanese trailer so far. Both look incredible.

LovecraCked! The Movie

LoveCracked Poster A brief synopsis…

Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20th, 1890. His impact as an author of supernatural horror has had a huge influence upon modern day horror, sci-fi and fantasy writers including the likes of Stephen King and Robert Bloch. It was he who created the enduring myth of that fabled tome of evil, the Necronomicon, which played catalyst in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead film trilogy. Yet sadly Lovecraft remains virtually unknown to the average reader or viewer, unlike his predecessor Edgar Allen Poe, whose stories are required reading in schools.

With Lovecraft’s great influence on horror fiction, it would seem inevitable that a documentary film would someday be made that would fully bring to light the life of this 20th century master of the macabre…

This is NOT that film.

Not since “Fahrenheit 9/11″ has one movie generated more controversy! Prepare yourself for an expose’ like no other - where quality investigative journalism is equaled only by the likes of FOX news!

Bats will fly! Pants will be lost! Aliens will invade! Typewriters will be thrown! Wardrobes will be shredded! And makeshift dummies will be dropped from extremely unsafe heights!

And there really isn’t anything to add to that, other than to point out that BiFF JUGGERNAUT’s The Voice Inside was both darkly funny and deeply disturbing and that LovecraCked looks like it’s going to be both funny and disturbed.

The Boy With A Thorn In His Side

The Boy With A Thorn In His Side The Boy With A Thorn In His Side from Sepia Films is the story of Billy.

Billy has problems. Girls. Work. Food. Parents. Chimpanzees…LIFE. He’s eighteen, has no job, no friends, no life. Simply put; he’s a loser. He has dreams of being a big rock star or becoming an artist or writing a best selling novel; but those are just fantasies. He doesn’t want to work because he can’t see the point in doing something he just doesn’t want to do.

In short, The Boy With A Thorn In His Side is…

A comedy about a boy who’s coming down while growing up.

And, from the downloadable trailer, it looks quite funny.

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis I recently mentioned that US based Hungarian writer/director, Jenö Hodi, will be returning home - and visiting a few of the surrounding countries - for his next film, Metamorphosis, an English language horror film.

When three young, carefree Americans on an Eastern European trip pick up an attractive stranger, Elizabeth, they can’t forsee that she’ll take them on the journey of their lives. As Keith, a novelist fascinated with ancient mysteries, and the exotic Elizabeth fall in love, they set off a series of events that puts them all in mortal danger.

The group ventures through the mountains to a medieval castl, where they soon discover that their survival depends on outwitting and eluding supernatural forces. As the fast-paced, horrifying action accelerates, sections of the story’s Rubik’s cube begin to lock into place. Then, with a surprising twist along the lines of The Sixth Sense and The Others, the plot takes a sharp, mind-bending turn.

And, even though the cameras have not yet rolled, there is a trailer.

The production team has developed a “conceptual trailer” that uses original narration over a background of pre-existing cinematic images in order to convey a sense of the style and mood of the film.
