Last year, director Peter Cornwell finally chucked in his day job and decided to go all-or-nothing on this short film, a move which has paid off in bigger style than anyone expected - Ward 13 has made it to the short list of ten films under consideration for an Oscar.
What price would you put on your health?
Ben is about to find out… WARD 13’s newest admission faces medical attention of an unwanted kind — and no apples will keep these doctors away.
After a car accident, Ben wakes up in hospital. Not knowing where he is or what is going on, he starts exploring the corridors…only to find that the staff don’t have his health in mind! The hapless patient must pull himself together and do everything he can to escape. It’s an action/horror/comedy - ending with the wheelchair chase from hell!
I’ve just watched the trailer and it’s the most I’ve laughed all day!

Popular Chicago weatherman, Dave Spritz (Nicolas Cage) has a shot at the big time when a national morning television show calls him for an audition. Professionally, Dave is on top of the world, but his personal life is in complete disarray. The harder he tries to hold on, the more he loses his grip.
From the trailer, The Weather Man looks like a very interesting spin on the whole mid-life crisis storyline. And with Nicolas Cage being supported by Michael Caine in a Gore Verbinski film, this could well be one to watch.

According to The Observer, Mondovino is :
A fascinating anti-globalisation documentary on the wine trade touches on politics, colonialism and the power of the family
And, according to the BBC:
Jonathan Nossiter’s documentary provides an entertaining examination of the impact of globalization upon the international wine industry.
Either way, it certainly sounds like a film worth seeing.
Mondavino is already playing in France, Belgium and the UK but doesn’t open in Germany or The Netherlands until next April.

Baby Doll is the story of Casey Henson, an outwardly normal young woman who never quite recovered from the death of her parents or the subsequent abuse at the hands of various orphanages and foster parents.
It’s a powerful and disturbing film with a rather effective final twist that easily transcends its low budget origins to create a gripping film and an intense experience that is not easily forgotten.

I saw the trailer for this - in the cinema - a while ago and it really does look like an impressive film. According to the IMDb:
Booting lives in a small and peaceful village. One day a sacred Buddha statuette called Ong Bak is stolen from the village by a immoral businessman who sells it for exorbitant profits. It soon becomes the task of a young man, Boonting (Phanom Yeeram), to track the thief down to Bangkok voluntarily and reclaim the religious treasure. Along the way, Boonting uses his astonishing athleticism and traditional Muay Thai skills to combat his adversaries.
And now the trailers are up on the Apple website.

There is a myth that in the heart of Miranda Forest there dwell beautiful nymph creatures that were once angels. Thrown out of heaven after they became infected with human emotions of lust and sexual desire they now roam the forest, luring in unsuspecting victims with their beauty before seducing them and then gruesomely killing them. Now five teenagers are going to discover that there is more to this story than just myth…
Fear has never been so beautiful…
Seduction has never been so terrifying…
Forest of the Damned brings together Nicole Petty, Tom Savini and Shaun Hutson and, from the trailer, it really does look rather impressive.

According to the IMDb,
Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are three intelligent young children who receive terrible news that their parents have died in a fire and have left them an enormous fortune not to be used until the eldest child is of age. When they are sent to live with Count Olaf, a greedy distant relative, they soon learn he is trying to steal their fortune for himself.
The film’s official site is an absolute treat - full of rolling eyeballs, swinging penulums and dire warnings not to go further. It certainly looks like this is a film that will appeal way beyond it’s core family audience and Jim Carrey’s Count Olaf must be the world’s first blogging villain.
And the trailers are here:

Satanists kidnap a waitress to give her body to Satan. Her redneck friends show up to rescue her, ruining the satanic ritual and sending the power of the Devil into the most unlikely of hosts, a sacrificed chicken. Chaos ensues!
It all sounds very silly - and lots of fun. The film is currently in post production and the the dead will squawk in 2005!

Late one night, eight guys are sitting around at a cigar club in Beverly Hills, smoking cigars, playing high-stakes poker and complaining about how men always seem to get screwed-over by women. Suddenly, there is a knock at the door.
The movie is about what men talk about when women aren’t around. In the end they get fucked but not exactly the way they wanted it… You can love this movie or you can hate it. You might get it and enjoy it or you might get it and say a smart ass comment like “nothing here that I didn’t know about”. That’s fine, we can take it.
