Glenn Tilbrook - One For The Road

Glenn Tilbrook - One For The Road For those that are too young to remember, Glen Tilbrook was the lead singer of Squeeze - one of the best bands to come out of Britain in the late 1970s - who, with singer/guitarist Chris Difford, was briefly hailed as the new Lennon and McCartney.

Squeeze were resonsible for 21 UK hits and were able to headline New York’s 20,000-seat Madison Square Garden until they finally broke up in 1999.

But Tilbrook’s still going, although he now tours in a beat up camper van with a staff of one - his manager and wife, Suzanne Hunt.

Filmmaker, Amy Pickard was inspired. And in 2001 she joined him for his month long tour of the US. The result is Glenn Tilbrook - One For The Road which premiered at London’s Raindance film festival in 2004 and is now available on DVD.

The Roger Corman Puerto Rico Trilogy

The Roger Corman Puerto Rico Trilogy You learn something new every day. And today, I learned that Roger Corman made a trilogy of films in Puerto Rico.

The films are Last Woman on Earth in which a skindiving couple gradually conclude that an unexplained, temporary interruption of oxygen has killed everyone on the island, and maybe in the world; Creature from the Haunted Sea in which an American crook tries to cash in on a Caribbean revolution and a mythical sea monster; and Battle of Blood Island in which a pair of American GIs try to survive on an isolated island after the rest of their unit has been wiped out.

And the set is hosted by Roger Corman.

The Aristocrats

The Aristocrats The Aristocrats is a joke that goes back to the times of Vaudeville. It is a joke that is never told in public, a private joke for comedians, so you’ve never heard it before. It’s a secret handshake among comics. It is also the dirtiest joke you will ever hear.

Until now…

The Aristocrats captures over 100 of the world’s funniest, most gifted comics giving the joke their own interpretation. Even in comedy, it’s the singer, not the song.

The Aristocrats is dirtier than anything you’ve ever thought. That’s because you leave thoughts like this to the experts so you don’t have to think them yourself. You love comedy because it makes you laugh and cringe at somebody else. These comedians push boundaries you never knew existed. That’s because they’re artists.

There’s a trailer here and the South Park version of the joke here.

Look Around You - Series 2

Look Around You DVD From Twitch comes the news that Look Around You - Series 2 is to be released on January 16th.

And yes, Serafinowicz’s Shaun of the Dead compatriots do make an appearance as do Paul Putner (Little Britain), Matt Lucas (Little Britain), Mark Heap (Spaced, Green Wing, and also Peter’s co-star in the woefully unavailable How Do You Want Me), Sarah Alexander (Coupling, Green Wing, Mack’s dreams), David Walliams (Little Britain), Kevin Eldon (bloody well everything) and a flurry of other notables. The sheer number of guest spots alone should tell you something: that many high profile comics don’t get involved in something unless it is very, very good.

I have to admit that I didn’t see any of this spoof of 1970’s educational films when it was transmitted but, having just watched the Birds of Britain clip online, I am kicking myself. Hard.

Neko Bus Oikakekko — Remote Control Neko Bus

Neko Bus Oikakekko More remote control Miyazaki with this catbus from My Neightbor Totoro.

This large and very soft plush doll measures 28 cm (11 inches) from nose to tail and is easily controllable via the infrared log shaped remote control. With the Catbus turned on, just press the leaf on the log and he will clumsily walk around and make this an instant hit with your kids. An excellent example of Japanese cute culture brought to life through modern technology.

Giant Totoro DX Plush

Totoro DX Plush This is the biggest Totoro ever made, and there aren’t many left.

This classic Totoro stands an impressive 23 inches high from feet to ears, and features great detailing all over his body, including his face, ears, the little “V” marks on his chest, whiskers and his plush, soft tail. Colored a beautiful dark gray! Great for Studio Ghibli collectors, we highly recommend this fantastic item!
