Studio Ghibli Calendar

Studio Ghibli Calendar

An extra huge, and extra beautiful, calendar from Miyazaki Hayao, the creator of Totoro, Laputa, Nausicaa, Howl’s Moving Castle and so many others, this is a very special item for all anime fans. It’s special because each page features an incredibly detailed illustration by the staff of Ghibli, featuring scenes from their films. And the illustrations are not stock cels already used in the films, but totally new cel-painted works, showing new pictures never seen before!

King Kong Movie Still

King Kong Movie Cell With the arrival of Peter Jackson’s epic remake, Let’s Go Retro have managed to get hold of a limited edition film cell from the film.

Only 1000 have been produced and every one of them is unique as they are cut from original film, making this a highly collectable gift.

The presentation bears a nameplate engraved with the title and limited edition number and comes with a certificate (on the back) guaranteeing the cell’s authenticity.

Treat yourself.

Green Street

Green Street So, once Christmas is over, what better way to expunge the sickly sweetness with a dose of football hooliganism?

And no, I’m not suggesting that you hit the terraces. I am suggesting that you treat yourself to Green Street in which Elijah Wood plays Matt Buckner, a Harvard undergraduate who moves to London after being expelled for alleged drug dealing and finds himself sucked into the hardcore world of booze, balls and violence with London’s toughest football firm – the Green Street Elite.

Stand your ground.

Satyajit Ray: A Vision of Cinema

Satyajit Ray: A Vision of Cinema Satyajit Ray is a giant of Indian cinema and one of the greatest ever moviemakers. This magnificently produced book celebrates a director who worked miracles on shoestring budgets and enhanced the lives of everyone reached by his work.

Satyajit Ray’s work as a film director has ensured his position as one of the great creative geniuses of the twentieth century. His thirty or so films put India on the map of world cinema and led Akira Kurosawa to say of him: Not to have seen the cinema of Ray means existing in the world without seeing the sun or the moon. Henri Cartier-Bresson felt the alertness and the profundity of this giant of cinema in all his majestic stature. Beginning with Pather Panchali, released fifty years ago this year, Ray won almost every major prize, including an Oscar for lifetime achievement. What makes him unparalleled in cinema is that he was personally responsible for all aspects of his films - from script to music. Satyajit Ray: A Vision of Cinema is therefore a rare kind of film book, which shows the mystery of movie creativity in unique close-up. Published as a lavish album, its hundreds of illustrations include drawings by Ray, ravishing film stills and haunting photographs by Nemai Ghosh, who accompanied Ray and observed his work for nearly twenty-five years.

The Christopher Guest Collection

The Christopher Guest Collection Although best known for This Is Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest and his team of improvisers also made Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind - three more mocumentaries that tackle the worlds of amateur dramatics, folk singers and competitive dog owners respectively.

All three films in The Christopher Guest Collection are superbly observed and well worth seeing.

Wall and Piece

Wall and Piece Britain’s most wanted artist, responsible for decorating the streets, walls, bridges and zoos of towns and cites throughout the world, has compiled the best of his work - both old and new - into a single, fully illustrated colour volume..

Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills, and umbrellas. If you look hard enough you’ll find your own. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals. His identity remains unknown, but his work is prolific.

Shaun of the Dead - the book

Shaun of the Dead So what do you buy for the literate zombie fan in your life?

How about “director’s cut” comic book adaptation Shaun of the Dead which is very faithful to the film and includes every last postmodern witticism and gloriously tacky gore scene.

The book also contains movie storyboards, production stills, and additional bonus material courtesy of co-writer/director, Edgar Wright and co-writer/star, Simon Pegg.
