Philosopher threatened after suggesting Islam might be violent

Toulouse based philosopher and philosophy teacher, Robert Redecker published an opinion piece in Le Figaro entitled “Confronted to Islamist intimidation, what can the free world do?”

“Merciless warrior, pillager, murderer of Jews and polygamist that is how Mohammad portrays himself in the Koran … Hatred and violence live in the book by which every Muslim is educated, the Koran,” Redeker wrote in his post.

Following a number of death threats, he is now under protection by the police, forcing him to stop giving lectures.

The Egyptian government has quickly stepped in by banning both Le Figaro and German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which carried an article looking at Muhammed’s success as a military leader.

The Egyptian agency said: “The minister of information said that he would not allow any publication that insults the Islamic religion or calls for hatred or contempt of any religion to be distributed inside Egypt.”

Obviously the hatred and contempt bit doesn’t apply to Jews.
