More death threats over Muhammed
The Muhammed Cartoons Controversy rumbles on with a Pakistani cleric offering a reward and a car for murdering the cartoonist who drew the cartoons. The reported reward varies depending on whether you read The Guardian or The BBC
As with many of the protesters, Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi, appears to have his basic facts wrong as the twelve original cartoons were drawn by twelve different cartoonists. Or maybe he means the Danish imam who came up with the idea of depicting Muhammed with the snout of a pig.
In the same country, a minister in the hardline Muslem provincial government has called for the extradition of the cartoonist (again, he’s not clear as to which one he means) so he can be put on trial in Pakistan.
Denmark has temorarily closed its embassy in Pakistan because of the security situation and is advising against travel to the country. Pakistan has recalled its ambassador in Denmark for consultations.
A minister in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has also announced a reward for anyone who murders the cartoonist who drew the images of Muhammad (again, which cartoonist, which images?) and, in Malaysia, around 3,000 people called for an international boycott of Danish products, while an effigy of George Bush was burnt (some confusion there, I gather).
