Bounty put on cartoonists’ heads
In a disturbing development of the Danish Muhammad cartoons story, Denmark.dk (via MediaWatchWatch) is reporting that Pakistani religious party has offered a bounty of DKK 50,000 (EUR 7000) for the head of the cartoonist responsible for the drawings. The group - Jamaate-Islami - mistakenly believes that the 12 cartoons were created by just one person.
Danish authorities immediately informed the Pakistani government about the death threats and bounty promised by the party, which is described as nationalistic and fundamentalist.
Danish Ambassador to Pakistan, Bent Wigotski, has no plans to leave the country despite hundreds of angry protest letters from Muslims around the world.
‘But the situation is of course serious,’ he said. ‘They might want to get to the Danish illustrators, but if they can’t reach them, they could make to with a scapegoat.’
That scapegoat could be anybody, the embassy warned, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned all travellers from visiting Pakistan because of heightened risk of violence.
The Pakistani Ambassador to Denmark, Javed Qureshi, has denounced the death threats and expressed certainty that the Pakistani Government will take action.

Show how ill-educated most of the world is. pity the children who are born to naturally trust adults. they trust, they believe. i mean pretty much the whole western world can fool kids into thinking santa claus, a big fat man in red, delivers the world presents in one night. coming to a certain age we know its a load of pap but didnt most of us believe? Surely this is a contradiction. If you have the right to print something, then you have the right to print it. If you are only free to say things that offend no-one, then you don’t really have any freedom at all.

what i meant was that one should not print everything it feels, somet feelings are best left unsaid. I mean there are many laws in europe and else where that violate freedom of speech too “like not accepting that holocaust took place” but it is outlawed because it is extremely offensive, and in my opinion it should not be outlawed but people should not print it either so that’s what i meant, sorry if i confused you even more.
Holocaust denial laws are a bad example here because many countries - including Denmark - have no such law. It’s also worth bearing in mind that the countries that do have these laws have them not because of offensiveness but because of fears that holocaust denial can be used to justify anti-Semitic violence. And finally, I do disagree with such laws because I don’t think that banning speech - any sort of speech - is either healthy or effective.
Which brings me to your main point, that some things are best left unsaid.
To an extent, you have a point in that being offensive for its own sake isn’t particularly clever and isn’t going to convince anyone of anything. The problem is that such a position is unenforceable. The Jyllands-Posten did explain that they published the cartoons to highlight what they saw as a dangerous issue of self-censorship among a media afraid of violent repercussions from an unreasonable and intolerant minority.
What, I think, we all need to keep in mind is that in a free society people will say things that you find offensive. You are also likely to say things that other people find offensive. But if we are going to talk to each other we need to accept that the price of being able to say what we want is accepting that other people will occasionally say things we rather they didn’t.

Anyway you are saying he definitely did come down and tell us the deal but your only reason for saying that is your religious text says he did. But so do the others.
