Libby, Montana which was broadcast nationally in 2007 on the PBS Series, POV/The American Documentary, has received a News & Documentary Emmy nomination in the category, “Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story - Long Form.” The nominees were announced on July 15 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). Four other television documentaries (including two more from POV) are nominated in the category. The News and Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on Monday, Sept. 22 at a ceremony in Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, in New York’s Time Warner Center.
P.O.V., public television’s premier showcase for independent point-of-view films, received six total nominations in the 29th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards. “P.O.V. celebrated its 20th season on PBS last year with a diverse slate of films by established and emerging filmmakers,” said Simon Kilmurry, P.O.V.’s Executive Director. “From the struggles of refugees, immigrants and working Americans to stories of personal transformations, the nominated films introduce us to people whose lives, we hope, will enrich our own.”

Each year, B-Independent.com - one of the more venerable film sites on the internet - announces their Underground Film of the Year. And this year, the honour goes to John Paul Kinhart’s Blood, Boobs & Beast, the compelling story of Don Dohler, whose movies have been called everything from oddly brilliant to some of the worst films of all time.

An unprecedented lineup of celebrities have joined forces for a special eBay charity auction to launch Participant Productions’ social action campaign for the highly anticipated film version of The Kite Runner. On December 5th, authentic Afghan kites, each bearing a tail personally autographed by a different celebrity, will be listed on eBay—www.ebay.com/kiterunner. The proceeds will benefit the Afghanistan Relief Organization (ARO) specifically for the training of teachers and the construction of rural libraries in Afghanistan. The Kite Runner is scheduled to open in select theaters December 14.
Among those celebrities who have autographed the 25 kite tails are Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Benicio Del Toro, Billy Bob Thornton, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Cher, Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, Kate Winslet, Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, former President George H.W. Bush, Eva Mendes, Ryan Gosling, Steve Nash, Lauren Bosworth, Lauren Conrad, Hans Zimmer, The Kite Runner director Marc Forster and actor Khalid Abdalla. In addition to receiving a kite with the tail autographed by the celebrity, the winning bidder will receive a “thank you” card signed by the celebrity.
Other items to be listed on eBay include a trip to the set of the new James Bond film as a personal guest of director Marc Forster, as well as a private lunch with The Kite Runner author Khaled Hosseini. People will also have the opportunity to bid for the inclusion of their names in Hosseini’s next book.

Just in time for the holiday season, there will be a limited edition music box specially designed for Pan’s Labyrinth going on sale Wednesday November 28th on the Pan’s Labyrinth website.
Measuring a full 8.75 x 6.5 x 2.75 inches, the music box is made of solid wood and features a high quality 18-note mechanism that plays the Pan’s Labyrinth Lullaby (“Long, Long Time Ago”), by Javier Navarrete. The front of the box features images from the film. They will be creating a limited edition run of no more than 2000 Pan’s Labyrinth music boxes in this style.
These will be priced at $125, exceopt for the first one which has been signed by Guillermo Del Toro and will be put up for a charity auction on Ebay on November 28th.

The enthusiastically insane people behind Die You Zombie Bastards, the world’s first - and probably only - serial killer superhero rock ‘n’ roll zombie road movie romance, are heading into Halloween with their own inimitable style.
Firstly with their t-shirts, which are selling fast but which they want to clear faster so that they can get the next limited edition wearable masterpiece out. So, for the Halloween season, the price has been dropped to $10 a piece. Click here to get yours.
And if you happen to be in or near Massachusetts, the film will be screening at CinemaSalem in the Witch City of Salem. The fine folks at CinemaSalem and the Salem Fright Festival would like to see it become a Halloween tradition, so go and support both the film and the festival. Die You Zombie Bastards will be showing at 11pm on October 27th - when you can also meet co-writer/co-producer Haig Demarjian and Doug Williams - and 10:30pm on Halloween Night.
The above-mentioned Haig Demarjian is currently having a solo show of his very own paintings, drawings and prints. The show is called Eerie Horrors from Beneath the Vault of Dread and is at the Winfisky Gallery on the Salem State College campus through October 18th. The show includes the debut of a colossal seven by eighteen foot painting Demarjian has been working on for two years, and Creep-O-Vision, a multimedia monster presentation. All are welcome at the gala reception, 6-8pm on Wednesday October 10th - there’ll be food, fun, prizes and surprises!
