Big Sky Films Series continues the 2008 season with the independent feature documentary Obscene. Barney Rosset is the greatest American publisher of the twentieth century and the most influential cultural figure that you haven’t heard of. Under Rosset, Grove Press and Evergreen Review fought decisive battles, including many before the state and federal supreme courts, defeated legal censorship, and opened American life to new and dangerous currents of freedom. But Rosset’s public fight against hypocrisy and injustice is inextricable from his tumultuous personal life: the same unyielding, quixotic, reckless energy that upended centuries of law brought Rosset perilously close to self- destruction and exacted a cost from friends, colleagues and family.
The Big Sky Film Series is a periodic monthly screening series highlighting traditional and innovative nonfiction film and video. It is held the first Friday of the month as part of downtown Missoula, Montana’s “Art Walk.” All screenings are held in the Historic Wilma Theater and are free and open to the public. The series is programmed by the staff of the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.
The screening starts at 7:30pm on Thursday July 3rd.

Amateur Porn Star Killer 3 is going 3D. Sort of. Director Shane Ryan is making Amateur Porn Star Killer Part 3 to conclude his trilogy of the seriously dark faux snuff film series, and then Amateur Porn Star Killer 3D which will be a parody of the series.
“I was asked to do APSK3 in 3D which I thought was a terrible idea given how dark and handheld the style of the films are, it would for sure make you vomit if you haven’t already with 3D added,” says Ryan. “Not to mention it would kill the seriousness of it. 3D movies are usually campy horror, hokey porn, kids movies, or Sci-Fi/Action. I thought the only way to do this in 3D would be to make it a campy horror porn film. But I didn’t want the trilogy to end that way so we agreed on doing my serious Part 3 version as well as a campy 3D movie.”
Both films will be released as a double feature DVD just after Halloween of this year, with the 3D version also available in a 2D version, for a total of 3 versions for “Amateur Porn Star Killer 3”.

Writers Guild of America West President, Patric Verrone recently testified in the ongoing congressional hearings on net neutrality and will be discussing the issues and what has occurred since his testimony on the Filmnut online TV show on Wednesday, June 4th, 2008 at 8:00pm Pacific time (11:00pm Eastern time, 5:00am Central European Time).
Verrone is recently quoted as saying “The only thing bigger than corporations in this country is the government. So we think we have to make clear to legislators that we need somebody making sure that that pipe (buy which information travels from one computer to another) is neutral.”
Filmnut is a show that covers all aspects of filmmaking. Host, Jeff Schubert has interviewed well-known industry greats such as Oscar winning writer Bob Moresco, writer/director James Gunn, Heroes writing/producing team of Adam Armus and Kay Foster. Other notables include: Donnie Darko director of photography, President of IATSE Local 600 Steven Poster, Oscar winning makeup artist Jeff Dawn, Emmy winning director Michael Lembeck, actor Gregory Itzin and Kill Bill stunt coordinator Keith Adams among many others.
According to Schubert, “This is a genuine issue that affects millions of people around the world in terms of how they will continue to use and have access to the internet. People need to know both sides of the issue and make informed decisions. None of us paid attention to oil and gas over the years and see how that is working out? I’m looking forward to good questions on both sides of the debate.”
Filmnut is streamed live at www.thestream.tv and archived the following day at www.thestream.tv/filmnut.
