Magnet let’s the right one in

Let The Right One In Bavaria Film International has sold all rights to its European Film Market hit Let The Right One In to Magnet, Magnolia Pictures new genre arm, for North America. Right on the heels of its first market screening negotiations got under way over Thomas Alfredson’s romantic horror film and two times Gothenburg award winner with Magnolia finishing the race.

Let The Right One In, based on a best-selling novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, tells the story of a lonely twelve year-old boy and his friendship with a young girl, who appears to be a vampire.

“This modern-day vampire romance proves to have the right amount of poetic art house feel injected into the horror genre and therefore appeals to a wide audience”, says Stefanie Zeitler, Head of Sales with Bavaria Film International. “The cross-over potential is immense and I am very glad that Magnolia sees it the same way. They are the perfect partner as they have proven the right touch for films like this and we look forward to this cooperation”.

“A stand out film in any market or festival, ‘Let The Right One In’ is a master work of horror,“ says Tom Quinn, Senior Vice President at Magnolia. „What Bong Joon Ho’s ‘The Host’ did for monsters, Tomas Alfredson’s ‘Let The Right One In’ will do for vampires.“

The Really Rude Ride begins on March 25th!

Tripping The Rift: The Movie Space is the place on March 25, as Anchor Bay Entertainment releases the never before seen movie version of the TV show, Tripping the Rift. The irreverent Sci-Fi Channel series known for wild cutting-edge CGI animation and a lusty sense of humor becomes even bawdier with an unrated full-length feature (including a special “making of” featurette) that will delight fans of this crude cult hit. With the sexy voice of Jenny McCarthy along for the latest misguided mission, the DVD lands in one hip package for the suggested retail price of $26.97.

Tripping The Rift: The Movie is the saga of a bunch of derelict mutant misfits who live, work and play on the starship Jupiter 42, which is controlled by a neurotic A.I. known as Spaceship Bob. Bob’s neuroses are kept in check by the verbally abusive pilot T’Nuk while the ship’s inner workings are tended by Gus, the melancholy robotic chief engineer. No one’s really sure what job is performed by teen slacker Whip, but everyone has a definite idea of sexy android Six’s specialties. Captain Chode, a walking purple blob of rancor, hates his crew and they hate him right back.

As Chode and the crew work on their latest money making scheme in the space Princess protection business they are unaware that a cyborg killing machine, know as the “Exterminator,” has been sent back in time by the evil Bobo to eliminate their copulating captain, a mission that isn’t as easy as it might seem.

With the voice work of McCarthy, Stephen Root, John Melendez, and the extraordinary mimic Maurice LaMarche this is easily the most star powered starship in the universe!

Two Evil Eyes released on DVD by Arrow Films

Two Evil Eyes DVD Talented horror veterans George Romero and Dario Argento each contribute an adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe story to the feature-length “Two Evil Eyes.’’

Romero’s work ‘The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar’ tells the story of Jessica Valdemar (Adrienne Barbeau), who, with the help of her lover, a doctor (Ramy Zada), is hypnotizing her much older husband in order to force him to sign all his money over to her before he dies. Disaster strikes, however, when Valdemar dies whilst hypnotized. The result is that he is trapped between two realities, acting as a portal of sorts for the living dead to enter our world.

Argento’s story, ‘The Black Cat’, follows Rod Usher (Harvey Keitel) a crime scene photographer who takes a slightly unhealthy interest in death. All seems fine until his girlfriend Annabel (Madeleine Potter) brings home a stray black cat. The cat continues to get on Usher’s nerves until he strangles it, and eventually kills Annabel as well. The black cat keeps showing up, however, no matter how many.
