Monica Bellucci and Catherine Deneuve go wild in Mongolia
European Films report that Catherine Deneuve has been cast in the the upcoming adaptation of the Jean-Christophe Grangé novel Le concile de pierre (The stone council), which is to be directed by Guillaume Nicloux.
For the soon to be filmed French language ‘Le concile de pierre’, she will join Italian actress Monica Bellucci, who will play the main role of Diane, a thirty-something French woman specialised in the behaviour of predatory animals and an champion in martial arts. In an orphanage in Thailand she adopts a 5-year-old boy called Liu-San who she christens Lucien. When she takes him back to France, he remains brain- dead after a traffic accident. When murders start to happen in connection with her adopted son, Diane will embark on a voyage that will take her to the wide open spaces of Mongolia.
The screenplay for this supernatural thriller was written by director and Stéphane Cabel, who was also behind the script for the jaw droppingly excellent Brotherhood of the Wolf. Filming is scheduled to start on 20th September on location in France and Mongolia with a release date in 2006.
And it all sounds a whole lot more entertaining than the last French film I mentioned.
