Gaiman gets Slade
Back in 1996, Lenny Henry contacted Neil Gaiman and asked him if he wanted to write a contemporary television fantasy series. Gaiman said yes and a story was hatched. The result - Neverwhere - was shown on the BBC and told the story of Richard Mayhew, a young businessman who falls between the cracks into the world of London Below.
Later, Gaiman turned the series into a novel which expanded the story and delved further into the characters. And, on and off, there have been rumours of a film. Apparently, these rumours are about to become a reality.
According to Filmstalker (via), David Slade (the man behind Hard Candy and the upcoming 30 Days of Night) has been hired by the Weinsteins to direct a big screen adaptation of the story. As for the script, Gaiman told the MTV Movie Blog that: “They’re using my script from 2000, and they want me to polish it up a bit.”
There is no indication, as yet, as to when any of this might happen - but the sooner the better, as far as I’m concerned.
