Pollack’s Recount
This is interesting. Variety (via) are reporting that Sydney Pollack is to direct Recount, a narrative film about the 2000 presidential elections and the Florida recount.
According to Paula Weinstein, one of the film’s executive producers, the film won’t be taking sides: “It’s about a major event in American history, but it has no particular agenda or ax to grind,” she said.
The film, which goes into production in spring or summer, will emphasise the “human drama” of the events and will air in 2008 - just as the Americans are gearing up for another presidential election. The film will not be shown in cinemas as HBO are opting to show the film on TV instead in order to maximise the number of people that see it.
