Handmade Spanish CGI
This sounds fantastic. Handmade Films - the people behind such British comedy classics as Monty Python’s Life of Brian, The Missionary and Withnail & I, as well as some more recent stuff - have teamed up with Madrid-based Ilion Animation Studios to finance and co-produce Planet One, a “reverse invasion story” told from the perspective of an alien planet terrified with the possibility of a human invasion.
On Planet One, the locals have two antenna, eight fingers and tons of fear about alien invaders. They live in a world like our suburban 1950’s, with sci-fi flicks, gory comic books and paranoid army generals barking about monsters from outer space.
A young inhabitant of Planet One, Lem, thinks that space can be wonderful, but he lacks the courage to even move out of his parents’ basement. Then one day, out of the sky, an alien ship appears with something funny written on it: NASA. It is piloted by astronaut and ladies man, Captain Russ Baker. Russ had expected to plant the American Flag on a barren planet, only to land at someone’s backyard barbecue.
The CGI animated film will be directed by Jorge Blanco and written by Joe Stillman, who worked on Shrek. Production is due to start in may with a released planned for either Christmas 2008 or Easter 2009.
