Stelios Beware

Skydiver in record Channel flight

An Austrian man has become the first person to skydive across the English Channel.

Felix Baumgartner leapt from a plane above Dover at 0509 BST, landing 22 miles (35 kilometres) away in Cap Blanc-Nez near Calais just 14 minutes later.

Brings a whole new meaning to no-frills flying.

When your technology is this good, the skys the limit

It doesnt do any good to have a superb server, if everything in between is very chaotic. So we realize we have to extend autonomic capabilities across the Internet. This is where Grid computing comes in
- Irving Wladawsky-Berger, IBM vice president of technology and strategy as quoted on the IBM Website.

And, putting its money where its mouth is, IBM have built its own IntraGrid, an internal network to unify IBMs worldwide RD resources and to serve as a test bed for its much vaunted grid services and solutions.

Of course, you need a reliable, easy to manage secure yet open platform to sit at the heart of a grid like this. Something like the iSeries.

Howay the Reservoir Dogs

According to BBCi, plans are under way to make a 15m Hollywood blockbuster at St. James Park, the home of Newcastle United.

The film, Goal! is the story of a Latin American who signs for a top northern club where he has difficulty settling.

And now for the fun bit

The film will be co-produced Lawrence Bender - producer of such films as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown - and production company, Milkshake Films are busily dropping hints that Quentin Tarantino might get involved.

That said, with quotes like We havent talked to Quentin about it yet, but if we get someone of Quentins calibre we will be very excited., I wouldnt hold my breath.

Shooting for Goal is scheduled to take place in January and February 2004.

If youre interested, I flew from Amsterdam to Birmingham to attend a stag night. I still cant get over the feeling that I was travelling in the wrong direction.

Quote of the Day: The Huge Strength of Cohesion

My belief is that we really need to support and develop the culture of union and cohesion and certainly not nurture the culture of division. Selfishness, narcissism and division shall never win. We need to revive the huge strength of cohesion.
- Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy and current President of the EU, as quoted in EUobserver
